IQCLSW 2018, Cassis, France, 2nd-7th Sept. 2018

Special Issue NEW

We are very glad to serve as Guest Editors of this Special Issue to be published in Photonics (ISSN 2304-6732, http://www.mdpi.com/journal/photonics) that will contain a selection of papers submitted and accepted at IQCLSW 2018. Its main scope is to provide a timely and broad collection of the most innovative topics discussed at the latest edition of the school and workshop related to mid-infrared and THz photonics and optoelectronics. Submissions will be divided into Invited and Contributed papers, and are open to all participants. We warmly invite researchers to submit their contributions to this Special Issue. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• Theory and design of quantum cascade lasers
• New breakthroughs in quantum cascade laser performance
• Novel and new material systems
• Nonlinear effects in quantum cascade lasers
• Broadband gain media design and growth
• Quantum cascade laser photonic integrated circuits
• Novel waveguides for functionalised emission
• Strong light-matter interactions
• New detection schemes and methods (coherent detection, near-field etc.)
• Chemical/biomedical applications for cascade lasers
• Communication applications for cascade lasers
• Active imaging applications for cascade lasers
• Defense/homeland security applications for cascade lasers

Please note that the Article Processing Charges (APC) for submissions from IQCLSW 2018 will be waived. All the papers in this Special Issue will be published continually once accepted after peer review process. Further information can be found at:

Photonics is an online, open access journal covering both the fundamental aspects and applications of optics and photonics. Photonics strives to provide the means for authors to disseminate their scientific findings—both theoretical/simulations and experimental works—in a highly-accessible peer-reviewed journal. Photonics is presently indexed in the Web of Science (ESCI database) and Scopus [CiteScore 1.96].

The Editorial Board of Photonics strives to ensure a rigorous and efficient peer review process for all manuscripts, in order to ensure high quality manuscripts be published in a timely manner (if accepted after peer review process). The accepted manuscripts will be published quickly after the short production processing period in order to ensure fast dissemination to the scientific community.
