Le diplôme de l’ENS est généralement obtenu après trois années d’études à l’ENS. Les élèves Normaliens l’obtiennent à la fin de leur période au sein de l’ENS, c’est à dire à la fin de la quatrième année.

L’étudiant arrivant en possession de 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) pourra atteindre un niveau de maîtrise et qui s’élèvera à un total de 180 ECTS (L3 + M1 + M2).

En outre, la réalisation du diplôme ENS oblige à acquérir 72 ECTS, librement distribués au cours de ses années d’études. Il doit valider : 24 ECTS imposés dans le Département de Physique, 24 ECTS hors Département de Physique et 24 ECTS au choix.

Exceptionnellement, le diplôme de l’ENS peut être obtenu seulement après deux années d’études (à condition d’obtenir ces 72 ECTS), par les étudiants français et étrangers qui ont rejoint l’ENS à un niveau Master.
