Description

A Dark Matter Journey from Particle Physics to Modern Cosmology.
For more than a century now, the mystery of missing mass (or dark matter) has been the subject of debates, and motivates experiments in the field of supra-colliders, satellites and underground laboratories. While its existence is now hardly questionable, paradoxically, its nature is totally unknown. In these lectures, I propose to revisit a history of the Universe, from its primordial state to the direct and indirect detection of dark matter. The structure will be chronological, and at each step, I will show the influence of this mysterious particle and how we can detect it. This module, perfectly correlated with the cosmology and particle physics modules, can be seen as a concrete application of the latter.
Topics covered:
History of dark matter through the century.
Inflation, pre-heating and reheating: producing matter in a non-thermal universe. Influence of inflationnary models on dark matter density.
Thermal equilibrium and WIMP: decoupling of massive and/or relativistic particles from a thermal bath.How to understand and solve the Boltzmann equation.
FIMP, gravitinos, warm dark matter and other alternatives to conventional models.
Introduction to supersymmetry, supersymmetric candidates, Higgs-portal and collider influence
Detection of direct and indirect dark matter, current limits, smoking gun signals and future experiments.
