Cosmologie et formation des galaxies au Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, Toronto, Canada
abstract: Les galaxies ne sont pas de simples îles distribuées uniformément dans l’Univers. Elles forment un véritable réseau en bulles de savon souvent appelé toile cosmique. Cette distribution de la matière à grande échelle joue un role clef pour d’une part en apprendre davantage sur notre Univers lui-même (c’est l’objet de futurs grands projets spatiaux, comme Euclid, qui vont utiliser cette distribution spatiale des galaxies pour tenter de lever le voile sur la nature de l’énergie noire) et d’autre part comprendre comment se forment les galaxies (cet environnement fortement anisotrope est-il la raison de la fameuse séquence de Hubble?). Lors de son stage, l’étudiant(e) pourra travailler sur un de ces deux sujets. Il pourra s’agir de développer des outils analytiques dans ces domaines pour comprendre la structuration de la matière dans l’Univers, l’ellipticité et le spin des galaxies (théorie perturbative de croissance des fluctuations, principe de grande déviation, champs gaussiens aléatoires, théorie des champs de marée, etc) ou d’utiliser des simulations hydrodynamiques de pointe modélisant la dynamique de la matière noire et des baryons de l’Univers primordial jusqu’à nos jours.
CITA fait partie des laboratoires les plus prestigieux au monde en cosmologie. L’étudiant(e) aura l’occasion d’interagir avec des experts renommés - permanents ou visiteurs - ainsi que les thésards et post-doctorants du laboratoire. Il/elle participera à la vie scientifique du laboratoire en assistant aux journal-clubs et séminaires hebdomadaires.
